Your Cushion Against the Unexpected.
Unexpected expenses can arise at any time. That’s why having a financial safety net matters. With overdraft protection, your checking and debit card transactions can still be paid —even if your account doesn’t have enough available funds. We have our three overdraft services to help cover your checks, debit card transactions, automated payments, and more.
- Overdraft Account Link
- Overdraft Privilege
- Overdraft Loan
There are a variety of ways to avoid overdraft and bounced-check fees. The best way is to manage your account so you don't overdraw it. Here's how:
- Keep track of how much money you have in your checking account by keeping your check register up-to-date. Record all checks when you write them and other transactions when you make them. And don't forget to subtract any fees.
- Pay special attention to your electronic transactions. Record your ATM withdrawals and fees, debit card purchases and online payments.
- Don't forget about automatic bill payments you may have set up for utilities, insurance or loan payments.
- Keep an eye on your available balance. Remember that some checks and automatic payments may not have cleared yet.
- Review your account statements each month. Between statements, you can find out which payments have cleared and check your balance by calling the credit union or by checking online or at an ATM. Note: your Overdraft Privilege amount will not appear as a part of your balance.
Of course, sometimes mistakes happen. If you do overdraw your account, deposit money into the account as soon as possible to cover the overdraft amount plus any fees.
The option uses money set aside in a savings account to cover overdrafts. If you have a couple of different savings accounts, you decide which one to draw funds from first.
- Limit based on your savings account
- Items covered include: Checks, Automatic Payments, ATM cash withdrawals, Bill Pay transactions and Debit Card Purchases
This option is a discretionary overdraft service that members can choose to opt into or opt out of. We are not obligated to pay any item presented for payment if your account does not contain sufficient available funds; however, as long as you maintain your account in "good standing," we may approve your overdraft items within your current available Overdraft Privilege limit as a non-contractual courtesy.
- $400 maximum credit limit.
- Can be activated after the account has been open and in “good standing” for at least 90 days
- Items covered include: Checks, Automatic Payments, Recurring Debit Card transactions, Bill Pay transactions, and In-branch Teller transactions.
This option is a line of credit available to members who meet certain qualifications. It provides a safety net in the event you over spend your checking account or have an emergency. Instead of bouncing checks or having a purchase declined and paying fees, you can borrow a few dollars at a time (up to your approved limit) to cover the transaction. Transfers from your overdraft line of credit happen automatically to clear checks or process transactions.
- $300 minimum to $1,500 maximum credit limit
- Low fixed interest rate
- Interest is calculated on the outstanding balance only
- Flexibility to give yourself extra cash when you need it
