Back in 1946, nine dedicated employees at Chesapeake Corporation had a simple but powerful idea: create a place where coworkers could help each other save money and access affordable loans. On January 22nd of that year, Baylands Family Credit Union was born right on the grounds of the West Point Paper Mill.

What started as a small credit union in a paper mill has grown into something much bigger, and through the years, the vision and purpose remain the same. We've expanded thoughtfully over the decades, opening our Main Street headquarters in 1985, welcoming Norge in 2006, and adding New Kent in 2016. When we merged with Spruance Cellophane Credit Union in 2018, we didn't just grow larger—we grew stronger, bringing even more families into our community.

Today, we're proud to serve nine counties across Virginia: Chesterfield, James City, New Kent, King William, King & Queen, Middlesex, Essex, Gloucester, and Mathews. Live, work, worship, study, or volunteer in any of these areas? You're eligible to join our family. And once you're in, your immediate family can join too.
