Youth Month Contest Winners!

In April, like many Credit Unions, we celebrated Youth Month. Baylands once again held a fun coloring contest and had some special rewards for those 17 or younger who opened new youth accounts. Meet Melissa 

Meet Melissa Ayers, a Financial Service Specialist at our West Point Branch. She has been with Baylands for 9 years and truly treasures the bonds and connections made while helping members.

When not at work, Melissa enjoys the "Art of Crafting," channeling her creative energy into different mediums such as sewing, woodworking, and painting.

When asked what she enjoyed most about her work at Baylands, Melissa said, "Making dreams come true, for example, helping young adults through the process of their first car loan."

Mortgage Q & A

What is Escrow?

As you progress towards owning a home, you may come across the term “escrow.” But, what does it mean? Simply put, it's a budgeting tool that's built into your mortgage payment. As a homeowner, it's important to plan ahead for taxes and insurance costs. An escrow account helps by averaging these annual costs and including them in your monthly payment without any extra effort on your part. With each mortgage payment, money is deposited into an escrow account for taxes and homeowner’s insurance. When taxes and insurance are due, the mortgage department uses the funds from the account to pay the county treasurers and insurance companies.

At Baylands, we understand that market adjustments happen, which is why we conduct an escrow analysis on each BFCU mortgage annually, based on the mortgage loan anniversary date. The Analysis reviews the current escrow balance, plus expected deposits and expected expenses (taxes and insurance) for the upcoming year, and determines how the escrow should be adjusted.

We want to keep you informed of any adjustments or increases and reassure you that your mortgage escrow has been reviewed. After all, the best part of any escrow is the peace of mind that comes with knowing your taxes and insurance have been paid. Good People in Your Corner

Did you know that Baylands has a group of volunteers who help guide the success of the credit union? These volunteers selflessly dedicate their time and expertise to help the credit union focus on doing what’s right for members.

These passionate volunteers serve either on the Board of Directors or the Supervisory Committee. The Board following the Federal Credit Union Act and our bylaws monitors Credit Union operations and helps establish organizational goals. Members of the Supervisory Committee help provide oversight of the financial health of the Credit Union and ensure member assets are well protected.
