Keeping
Things in Balance
Having a checking account is a wonderful
opportunity to build
towards a great financial future ... but it
is also a great opportunity to
mess up that future. Making sure
that you keep your account in
balance is a simple but focus requiring
task. It is important to make
sure that what your records indicate
is presence in your account is
the same as what the credit union
says is in your account --
keeping it balanced.
Your checks come with a register designed
for you to record all transactions that occur on your account.
This includes all checks you have written, all VISA Debit transactions,
all transfers, and all deposits.
Write in your register the amount
of each purchase or deposit immediately following the transaction
and
add or subtract it to your running total.
If you have a share draft checking
with BayLands, you will receive a monthly statement and
this can
come through Snail Mail or email (the choice is up to you). This
statement lists:
- Your account balance (beginning and end of
the month)
- Any deposits, transfers, or withdrawals that you have made
- checks that have been cashed
- Any fees that you may have incurred |
The balance on your monthly statement should match
the balance that is listed in your
checkbook register. If it does
not initially balance, make sure that your math is correct and
also
make sure that you are not counting any checks that have not cleared
from your account yet.
To verify if a check or transaction has cleared
between statements, log on to
BayLands@HOME PC Teller and your can
view your account information.
After making sure that you have all
checks, fees, deposits, withdrawals, ATM transactions
recorded correctly
and it still does not balance ...
contact your credit union and
get
a Member Service Representative's assistance.
